Letter Writing Guide to Future Generations of Hope

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.

Six Easy Steps to Writing a Letter of Hope to the Future

  1. Address your letter to its intended recipient.  Who is your letter intended for?  You likely will not have a name or specific person in mind.  But who are you thinking of, what kind of person do you want to read your letter?
  2. Introduce yourself.  You have to assume that the future generation won’t know you.  You are more than just your name.  Write a paragraph about who are you, and where are you in your life.
  3. Why are you writing the letter?  Let future generations know what is motivating you to write to them and connect with them.
  4. Talk about your day-to-day experiences.  What is going on in the world, in your country, your state, your town.  What is happening in your life?   Paint a picture with words about the current state of events in your life, even if they seem mundane.
  5. Be honest.  Open up about your fears, even if they are irrational.  Talk about your struggles.  Talk about what makes you happy, even if for the moment.  Often times people feel alone in their struggles.  If only they shared from their hearts, they would realize that they are not alone, even if separated by decades.    Fear and hope can be universal.
  6. Talk about the end of the darkness.  Make them see that the sun always rises, eventually.  Give the gift of hope.
